Editor's note

So what now, Mr President?

I can sit for hours and just stare – be amused at life's amusement.

Many things amuse me easily. The way someone sneezes, a dog chasing after a bird and even the odd movement of leaves fluttering about in the wind. Anything really.

I can sit for hours and just stare – be amused at life’s amusement.

That was until our President pulled a 360 degree back-flip stunt on the country. That did not amuse me at all. It completely outraged me.

But it did not outrage me in an outward sense or form; no, it outraged me more emotionally.

I am sure that I speak for most people when I say that I am sick and tired of hearing about how our President literally does what ever he likes with this country. I am tired of entertaining those thoughts that make even my facial expressions show that I really do not care anymore.

And then I started thinking – if I don’t care, and other people don’t care, then soon the whole country is not going to care … right?

So what do we do? What do ordinary people like us do in an extraordinary situation like this, where our country is being held to ransom by a handful of powerful people, and we are just hanging on to the yo-yo they are flailing about?

We can wear black on a Monday and show unity, but does that change anything? No, not really. We can take action by protesting and marching, but then someone needs to organise it and rally up some troops, which in this case sounds like a lot of effort since we are all pretty much tired and run down. Again, will it work? Probably not, because only a handful of people will show up.

We need some serious intervention here and I for one do not know where to turn anymore.

Perhaps I should just go on my knees and thank my Lord for carrying me through this … one day at a time.

If you are looking to me for some words of wisdom or advise, all I can say is be patient and trust in God for guidance.

I conclude my note with a quote from one of my favourite movies, which might perhaps make things look better – “what happened, happened and couldn’t have happened any other way …”

If you know which movie I’m referring to, let me know by emailing the name to krugersdorpnews@caxton.co.za.

Until next week, keep on keeping on, Krugersdorp.
