Annual Portuguese Festa another great fiesta

The Holy Rosary Catholic Church held its 30th annual Portuguese Festa and it was another success.

The church grounds at the Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Luipaard Street were abuzz on Sunday, 6 October when the church hosted its 30th annual Portuguese Festa.

Every year, the Portuguese community of Krugersdorp gets together to replicate the Festas that are held in Portugal and on the island of Madeira at this time of the year.

Deloris Gouvera, Ricky Gouvera and Edwardo Devasconsalis sold Prego rolls.

While Mass started at 11am, there were already people queuing for the ever-famous food that was on sale. There was grilled chicken, prego rolls, espetadas, caldo verde (a traditional kale soup), bolo co Caco (traditional bread), and a selection of Portuguese cakes and tarts.

Between braaing the espetadas the teams took some water breaks.

There was also a big stage set up where a DJ provided live music throughout the day and traditional Portuguese folk dancers entertained the crowd.
