R200m paid to Limpopians in UIF in 3 months

The Unemployment Insurance Fund (UIF) in Limpopo has so far paid over R200 million in UIF claims in three months.

This is according to UIF head in Limpopo, Ronet Landman, who said that the R202 734 653,60 payout is from 42 000 claims.

She made the announcement during a virtual media briefing where the department was releasing the Covid-19 TERS stats.

In April the province received 4849 UIF applications of which 3015 were finalised, in May they received 3755 applications of which 2078 were finalised and 2715 cases were finalised in June from the 4100 applications. Landman encourages people to also make use of the free WiFi available at each of the 13 labour centres across the province.

“If you don’t have data and you want to access our services you can go to our centres and connect to DELGUEST it does not require a passport,” she said.

The department has also employed 18 auditors to audit the UIF Covid-19 TERS.

All companies who have benefited from the fund, will be investigated to check if all the funds they received were used effectively or not.

The audits will be done in all provinces across the country. The Director for UIF Communication & Marketing, Makhosonke Buthelezi in the Province, said that it is not yet clear how long the audits will take.

He announced that by August 22 the department had payout a total of R41 billion nationally.

The first payouts were made in April 18, at that period they were paying directly to the employees bank accounts.

“Employers then requested that labour pay them then they will pay the employees.

“However this has created some problems, because we have many complaints from employees that their employers were not paying them,” Buthelezi explained.

The department encourages all people who believe that their employer are not doing the right thing, to report them by dialing the Impimpa Hotline *134*305#.
