ZCC announces plans for annual pilgrimage in Limpopo
The Zion Christian Church's annual religious gathering is not expected to draw large crowds to the branch in Moria outside Polokwane.
Most pilgrims of the Zion Christian Church (ZCC) will spend their holy time at respective branches and personal spaces instead of Moria outside Polokwane in Limpopo.
A service will be held at the St Engenas Zion Christian Church branch in Moria, but it is expected that most congregants who usually gather in Moria for the annual pilgrimage over the Easter weekend, will do so at their respective branches.
The mass-gathering in Moria has not been hosted in full capacity since the lockdown in 2020.
Since the outbreak of the Covid-19 pandemic in March 2020, the management of the church decided to halt proceedings without confirmation on when normal operations would resume.
The gathering was put on hold to prevent the mass spread of Covid-19. The annual pilgrimage is a spiritual highlight for ZCC followers.
Even so, a gradual opening of Moria’s doors has been seen in recent months as some members in need of services of the church, travel for this purpose.
In August 2022, government made strides to ease traffic congestion in the area, with the announcement of the construction of the multi-million rand St Engenas ZCC road interchange, along the R71.
It is not clear when the joint venture between the SA National Road Agency and Road Agency Limpopo will begin.
