Community raises service delivery concerns in Tzaneen

Mokgolobotho residents say Greater Tzaneen Municipality has failed to respond to service delivery concerns raised in a March memorandum.

LIMPOPO – Despite handing over a memorandum demanding urgent attention to service delivery issues in Mokgolobotho village, just outside Tzaneen, during a march on March 2, the Greater Tzaneen Municipality (GTM) has not yet provided any feedback.

Mokgolobotho Community Development Forum has voiced frustration over what they describe as poor communication and neglect of critical infrastructure needs.

Pavement project demands take centre stage

At the centre of their demands is the inclusion of pavement projects in the municipality’s 2026/2027 Integrated Development Plan (IDP).

The community says it submitted a formal request on March 23, but has received no response, despite the IDP process already being underway.

Safety concerns raised by residents

Forum chairperson Petrus Makwela said the lack of feedback was concerning.

Residents argue that the absence of pavements forces pedestrians to share roads with vehicles, posing serious safety risks.

Claims of unequal service delivery

They further claim the municipality has prioritised other areas while overlooking Mokgolobotho, raising concerns about fairness and equal service delivery.

Community considers escalation

The community said it would escalate its grievances to Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs MEC, Salga, and other oversight bodies.

They also indicated they may pursue legal action if their concerns remain unresolved.

Call for constructive engagement

Despite their grievances, residents said they still hope for constructive engagement.

“We want solutions, not conflict,” Makwela said.
