The National Council of Provinces (NCOP) members are pleased with the progress made by the provincial government regarding service delivery, particularly in areas highlighted as service delivery hotspots.

The NCOP`s week-long visit last week focussed on Mopani and Vhembe District

Municipalities respectively.

The NCOP`s Limpopo Whip, Tsepane Mampuru says the political will and commitment by both the local and the provincial government have paved the way for service delivery in the province.

“Although more work still needs to be done to improve the lives of the people of the province, however as the NCOP we are impressed by what we read in the progress reports and have observed on ground level during our interaction with the people. Site visits to service delivery areas have also been eye-openers.

The delegation has visited several centres of services delivery including hospitals, police stations, cooperatives, community projects, water schemes and culminated in public meetings in Relela, Greater Letaba Municipality and Chavani in the Makhado Local Municipality.

Meanwhile, Mampuru has acceded that not all challenges could be solved overnight, thus long terms solutions are necessary.

Provincial Week is a key mechanism for the NCOP to achieve its mandate of representing the provinces in the national sphere of government. The theme of this week’s programme is: ‘Together making service delivery work for our people’.
