Rapists to spend 25 years in jail

David Sekgobela (26), Samuel Maponya (24) and Masedi Isaac Makomela (25) were convicted of kidnapping and gang-raping a 14 year-old girl at Lephepane village in April 2012.

According to evidence presented in court, the three met the victim at about 19:00 .

She tried to run away but they caught her, and took her to a house where they repeatedly raped her until the early hours of the following day.

The victim testified that she was repeatedly assaulted with a broom stick during her ordeal and a towel was shoved into her mouth to prevent her from screaming.

Police welcomed the sentence because they say it will serve as a deterrent to would be rapists.
