Double murder suspect bail hearing postponed
The bail application for a man who allegedly shot dead a 63-year-old woman and seriously injured her daughter who later died in hospital has been postponed to May 18.
Frederick Molewa (35) of Rwanda village in Nwamitwa, is facing two counts of murder relating to the shooting to death of Mary Mangena and her daughter Hermina Mangena (40) of Sasekani Village in Muhlaba Cross last month.
Molewa, was appearing for the third time in the Ritavi Magistrate’s Court on Monday when the bail hearing was postponed.
Police spokesperson, Lieutenant Colonel Moatshe Ngoepe said the suspect, who disappeared after the shooting was arrested in Germiston, Gauteng the following week by the Tzaneen Cluster Police Task Team and Ritavi police detectives.
Ngoepe said on the day of the incident, the suspect stormed into the home of the elderly woman and when she asked what was happening he started shooting.
“Without saying anything, he started shooting, killing the elderly woman instantly and seriously injuring her daughter,” said Ngoepe.
He said police found two women lying in a pool of blood with multiple gunshot wounds. The daughter was still alive and taken to hospital where she died the following morning.
Ngoepe said their investigations revealed that the suspect was in love with the deceased elderly woman’s younger daughter and the two had a fight. The younger daughter was not at home at the time of the shooting.
The suspect fled in a white Volkswagen Polo until he was arrested the following week after a manhunt.
