Boko Haram murder case postponed
Ten men from Dan Village accused of killing a young boy believed to have been a member of a gang known as 'Boko Haram' appeared before the Ritavi Magistrate Court on Friday.
Boko Haram was a famous gang which use to terrorise community members from Dan Village, Lusaka, Mbambamencisi, Nkowankowa and other neighbouring villages. Mikateko Mathye was confronted by community members who took him to show them where other gang members reside. It is alleged one community member, Prince Hlangwini was shot dead by an armed ‘Boko Haram’ gang member who then fled the scene. It is said community members started beating up Mikateko, held him under water at a nearby river before hanging him on a tree behind Charles Mathonsi Secondary School. Mikateko’s wounded body was found the following morning by police. The men who are between 25-45 years were charged with murder, kidnapping, attempted murder, malicious damage to property and arson. Ritavi police spokesperson, Warrant Officer Seth Magadzi, said the men’s case was postponed to June 26 pending further investigations.
