GLM installs free-to-use outdoor gyms
In a bid to make healthy living accessible to all, the Greater Letaba Municipality is installing outdoor gymnasiums in its town, townships and villages.
Funded through the national grant, three outdoor gyms have been completed at Kgapane, Senwamokgope and Modjadjiskloof respectively while four more are currently being implemented at Maphalle, Sekgopo, Abel and Kuranta villages with the objective of taking health and fitness to the masses especially those who cannot afford commercial gyms.
Municipal spokesperson, Lovers Maenetje said the rollout of the free-to-use outdoor gyms is aimed at encouraging healthy lifestyles and increase social cohesion.
She said the outdoor gyms caters for everyone, from youth to pensioners.
While most people are delighted that the municipality has brought gyms to people who cannot afford fee-charging facilities, others are saying the municipality is busy wasting tax payers money on outdoor gyms instead of supplying water and maintaining the streets in the area.
Maenetja denied that the municipality is wasting tax payers money saying they are currently busy with the rehabilitation of streets and access roads in Modjadjiskloof, Ga-Kgapane and various other areas.
She said on the issue of water shortage, the Mopani District Municipaly which is a water service authority is addressing the matter in conjunction with Lepelle Northern Water.
