School on fire, exams disrupted

A high school at Mukhomi Village, outside Malamulele caught fire on Wednesday morning.

According to police spokesperson Colonel Ronel Otto, the fire destroyed examination papers which led to disrupting of the mid year exams that are currently underway.

“The fire started in the school’s administration block which had five offices, three storerooms, contained five laptops, a computer and sports kits donated by the National Lotto fund, all worth R18 000” said Otto.

The school had no security and the cause of the fire is not yet known.

Pupils stood by the fence as they watched fire fighters trying to put out the flames. Provincial spokesperson of the Department of Education, Dr Naledzani Rasila said they would ask the police if pupils could be allowed to complete their exam on Wednesday.
