Lazarus Moseamadi,  a third escaped prisoner was re-arrested in the Tzaneen area Wednesday afternoon.

According to police spokesperson Ronel Otto, two of the escaped prisoners from Ritavi were re-arrested in the Nkowankowa area Tuesday night and early Wednesday morning, after SAPS followed up information.

They are Stanley Nkwana and Rufua Mkhawana.

Five awaiting trial prisoners escaped from the police cells in Ritavi on Monday night,  after cutting through the mesh wires of the exercise room.

They are : Lazarus Moseamedi who was arrested for the murder of a police lieutenant and the attempted murder on a police constable.

He was also arrested on several cases of armed robbery.

Stanley Sipho Nkwana was arrested for attempted murder, Kgomotso Mokhabudi for murder, robbery and vehicle theft, Rufus Mkhawana for rape, robbery and assault and Dumisani Nukiwe Khosa initially arrested for rape.

Lazarus Moseamedi who was arrested for the murder of a police lieutenant and the attempted murder on a police constable also escaped from the police cells in Ritavi.

The Provincial Commissioner of the SAPS in the province, Lt Genl Fannie Masemola has launched and urgent and in depth investigation into the circumstances around the escape.

” If we find that there was any negligence or operational procedures not being followed by our members, internal departmental steps will immediately taken,” he said.
