UPDATE: SAA reverse embargo on hunting trophies

Good news for local game farmers and other roleplayers in the industry: The SAA’s embargo on the transportation hunting cargo has been reversed.

The said embargo, which included trophies such as rhino, elephant, lion and tiger, took effect in April of this year.

South African Airways issued a notice on July 20 regarding the embargo, stating that SAA Cargo and the Department of Environmental Affairs (DEA) have been in talks.

It was decided that SAA Cargo would revise the embargo, after the DEA gave them assurance that additional measures will be put into place ensuring compliance with all  required permits and documentation.

SAA further stated that all such trophies would need to undergo physical inspection, and documentation would be checked by relevant nature conservation authorities as they deem fit.

SAA reiterated that they will not be held responsible for any damages, delays during inspections, verification of documentation nor any other action deemed necessary by relevant South African authorities, for wherever these trophies are shipped or destined for.
