Top achiever receives funding
There are still good Samaritans out there who are willing to help in whichever way they can.
An 18 year-old teenager’s dream of becoming a doctor one day may come true sooner than he anticipated.
This comes after Thandeka Mona offered to fund Desmond Nkhwashu’s medical degree at the University of Witwatersrand.
Nkhwashu was part of the class of 2015 at Matimu High School in Khujwana Village. Mona found out about Nkhwashu’s financial struggle and his six distinctions through a newspaper article.
This made Mona to start thinking about her own struggles of trying to make it through university, without enough money.
“I read that story and I found it quite remarkable.
I know what it’s like struggling to study. For me it was hard, you know your parents’ pay cheque can only take you so far, but I was driven and I wanted to study regardless. So I was working full-time as a waitress and even then, that was not enough and I needed to take a loan to complete my studies,” said Mona, who is a University of Pretoria graduate. She said through the help of some “angels” in her life, she managed to complete her studies and get a job. She now works as a product marketing assistant manager at Nissan South Africa.
