One killed, 10 injured in Tzaneen bakkie crash

One person was killed and 10 others sustained various injuries when the bakkie they were travelling in overturned on the Matupa road in the early hours of Sunday morning, paramedics said.

At about 2.30am, ER24 paramedics found a bakkie wedged up near a telephone pole on the side of the road.

The occupants of the bakkie were found lying near the vehicle, ER24 spokesman Werner Vermaak said.

“One person was found with fatal injuries and declared dead on the scene. The remainder of the patients were treated for lacerations, scrapes, and bruises. They were later transported by various services to Letaba and Van Velden Hospitals.

“At this stage it is not clear if a second vehicle was involved in the collision. Local authorities attended the scene and will conduct an investigation,” Vermaak said.
