UPDATE: Car crashed through bridge railing-Exclusive photos!

A serious accident happened over the Letaba river bridge on the R71 road next to the Tzaneen showgrounds on Sunday night.

The car was badly damaged and the impact caused the engine to be ejected right out of the car.

According to a source, the driver allegedly fled the scene after the accident took place.
“I only heard loud sounds from my house and I was not sure what happened,”said an anonymous resident nearby.
The incident caused heavy congestion in the traffic when dozens of drivers pulled over to see.
One of the onlookers told Letaba Herald that the car must have traveled at an extremely high speed in order to cause such damage to the bridge barriers- portions of which had even fallen into the river.
