BREAKING NEWS: Driver shoots and kills ‘hijacker’

Police are investigating an attempted armed robbery and murder which occurred last night outside Tzaneen.

“It is alleged that a 40 year old taxi driver was traveling along Ga-Kgapane and Mokwakwaila road when he was stopped by three men who boarded the taxi. The taxi driver proceeded until he reached Madumeleng village,’ Lt Col Moatshe Ngoepe said.

According to Ngoepe, one of the suspects drew a firearm and demanded money from the taxi driver.

The driver applied emergency brakes, drew a firearm and shot the suspect.

‘The other two jumped out of the taxi and fled the scene,’ Ngoepe said.

The injured suspect was taken to Ga-Kgapane hospital and certified dead on arrival.

The deceased is a 27 year old and is already identified.

Police investigations are continuing.
