The workers who clean the streets of Nkowankowa and Lenyenye have been protesting since November 1 for better working conditions.
They work under Selema Plant Hire, a service provider which provides streets cleaning and rubbish bin services to these townships.
“We want the municipality to tell the service provider to sit down with us and negotiate better working conditions,” said Makgato Makgato, SATAWU organiser.
Makgato also added that the workers are not registered with the Department of Labour.
“SATAWU must stop misleading people by demanding working conditions of permanent employees while they are temporary workers,” said Molefe Makweya of Selema Plant Hire.
“The matter is still under discussion,” said Neville Ndlala, GTM spokesperson.
