Ben 10 wins big at SATMA awards
Xitsonga Musician Tirhani Mabasa has won the South African Traditional Award (SATMA) for Xitsonga Best Album.
The awards were held in Umhlathuze town hall, Pietermaritzburg recently.
“I feel honored that my first ever album has brought this award home. It shows that Vatsonga people appreciate my contribution towards preserving our rich heritage through music,” she said
“I dedicate this music to my fans who voted for me, it shows that they value my talent” said Mabasa
Her album titled ‘Ben 10’ which consist of 10 songs is the one that made her win a big prize.
“Working on my album was difficult because I had to balance my career, business and music, so sometimes I will go to studio and not finish recording my songs in time but through my hard work we completed it and today I won the award” said Mabasa who is also a Weather presenter at SABC 2 Xitsonga news she indicated that her album is doing well in shelves.
“My song Ben 10 talks about young man who falls in love with elderly women in order to get money and material things like a car and house” she said.
She is also a manager of Humba Communications whereby she manages artists like Soshangani, Mshengu and many upcoming Xitsonga Musicians.
Tirhani Mabasa hails from Madonsi Village in Malamulele.
She is a single mother of one boy Vuthlari Makhubele, one of her fans have applauded her for winning the award.
“As her fans we feel so proud of her that she managed to bring the award home, we wish her much more success in her musical journey and we will continue to support her.” she said.
