UPDATE: Letsitele farmworker raped

The suspect took out a screwdriver and threatened the victim with it before raping her.

Police in Letsitele have arrested a 54 year old male suspect for rape.

According to Police Spokesperson Constable Ntsako Reoh Mabunda, it is alleged that the 26 year old complainant, an employee at one of the farms around Letsitele policing area, was on duty in the afternoon when she was requested by her supervisor to assist him with carrying diesel containers to the storeroom, where he then raped her.

It is further alleged that the suspect took out a screwdriver and threatened the victim with it before raping her.

The victim reported the crime to the police station and the suspect was arrested.

The suspect was due to appear at the Ritavi Magistrate court on Tuesday October 31, at the time of going to press.

This arrest comes after the Tzaneen Cluster Commander Maj General Mathebula tasked police in all stations within the jurisdiction under her command, to take precautionary measures on cases of rape after there was a concern crime escalation in cases of such a nature which threatens the peace of vulnerable children and women.

“Police are promising to tighten their hands to ensure that whoever is caught in contravention of the law be dealt with accordingly.

“We will not rest until all The perpetrators are brought in the books. We would like to see all woman and children walk in this country freely without any fear of any criminal activity,” emphasised Maj General Mathebula.
