GIYANI: Illegal gold miners granted bail

The Giyani Magistrate Court granted a R1000 bail to 24 of 34 suspected illegal miners each on Tuesday.

The suspects were nabbed by the Hawks on March 5 at the Ellerton gold mine at Nhlaniki village outside Giyani.

“They were released with strict conditions which includes to report at the nearest police station every Friday, not to interfere with the investigation and to appear before court on their next court date,” explains, Captain Matimba Maluleke, Hawks Limpopo spokesperson.

They will appear again in court on May 1.

Meanwhile, the other 10 suspects were remanded in custody until March 19 for further investigation and another charge of illegal immigration was added against them.

The names of the 10 suspects who are still in police custody are; Jackie ngobeni (19), Simon ngobeni (40), Raymond mathebula (41 ), Ben mathebula (42), Solly isaih ngobeni (26), Solly ngobeni (23), Thomas ngobeni (44), Relax ngobeni (31), Louis ngobeni (63) and Paul xitlhangu (41).
