PHALABORWA – Meridian College Phalaborwa has once again demonstrated its strength in mathematics, with two learners securing places in the top 15 in the final round of the prestigious Mathematics Olympiad.

Mathematics teacher Freedom Shikwambana said he was delighted with his learners’ outstanding performance.

Approximately 13 000 learners from across Limpopo participated in the highly competitive competition.

Top performers in Mopani East

Gr 9 learner Lesiba Sekgobela, the top-performing learner in the Mopani East District, achieved 14th place in the final round.

Gr 7 learner Angel Ramathuthu, who was also the district’s top learner in her category, delivered an even stronger performance, finishing seventh.

Building on last year’s success

The achievement follows Meridian College’s success last year, when two of Shikwambana’s learners also finished among the province’s top 15.

Shikwambana said he was particularly pleased with the consistency of his learners’ performance.

“These achievements are a reflection of their dedication, commitment and hard work, as well as the guidance and support they receive,” he said.

The results also highlight Shikwambana’s commitment to developing his learners’ mathematical abilities, further contributing to Meridian College’s growing reputation for excellence in mathematics.
