TZANEEN: Shoprite and Checkers employees picketing outside stores

Employees from both the Checkers and Shoprite stores in Tzaneen are demanding better working conditions from their employer and have embarked on a protest by picketing outside the stores on Wednesday.

This forms part a nationwide protest, after talks with the management of the food chain failed to reach a consensus.

Employees of the  Tzaneen Shoprite branch were singing, dancing and chatting “we are ready for new improvements”.

Business is still as usual at the Shoprite store, but many of the tills are empty, because of the majority of the staff are outside picketing.

However it is not yet clear if business is open to the public at Checkers store.

The protest could not have happened at a worse time, taking into consideration that it is one of the busiest seasons of the year and time will tell if this hits the employer hard.
