The Mopani District Municipality has suspended two officials, satellite managers.

Solomon Rasethe and Emmanuel Ratshitanga were attached to the Greater Tzaneen and Greater Letaba municipal satellite offices respectively.

The pair have been suspended following allegations of amongst others the irregular awarding of borehole tenders.

The disciplinary processes are already underway and further details won’t be divulged as the matter is still ongoing.

The district municipality has appointed two acting satellite managers to ensure that service delivery is not hampered while the disciplinary hearings are ongoing.

The district municipality reiterates is stance that allegations of corruption and maladministration against all its employees are being taken serious and acted upon at all times.

The Mopani district municipality is working tirelessly to ensure that all communities within the municipal area get services that they need from the institution.

The Citizen report also reports that the municipality has suspended  the two senior officials amid allegations of the irregular awarding of borehole tenders, fraud and theft to the tune of R100 million.

“This comes after the portfolio committee on water and sanitation led by chairperson Lulu Johnson discovered that some service providers had charged the Mopani district municipality R2 million per borehole earlier this year. The committee, which visited water-related projects in the district, also found that three-quarters of the 4 820 boreholes drilled in Tzaneen, Giyani, Phalaborwa, Hoedspruit and Modjadjiskloof have not produced a drop of water,’ The Citizen reported.
