#Women’s Day 2018: All you need is Carla’s Cakes

One young woman is baking the world a better place everyday with her delicious cakes.

Carla Makhubele from Nkowankowa seems to have the best job in the world, as she puts a smile on peoples’ faces daily all in the name of a cake.

It is hard to believe that she only started baking and designing cakes professionally less than a year ago, but she is already a household name in the local area.

“On my birthday I was craving a really decadent cake and didn’t know where I’d find one in Tzaneen so I decided to bake one.

“It was a small cake but I offered everyone that came over and it was a hit,”explained Makhubele.

But she did not take her baking gift seriously until her friends and family convinced her to put more effort in her craft.

“My uncle insisted I consider baking and selling. I told him I couldn’t sell because my cakes were ugly.”

His response was, “They are only ugly because you bake once a year, put in some practice, bake more often and your cakes will start being pretty,” she added.

It seems that her Diploma in Interior Decorating from The Design School South Africa, comes in handy in her art of cake decorating.

She says what she loves the most about her craft is creating new recipes and taking on new challenges and seeing how happy her customers are when they receive their cakes.

She aspires to reach the artistry level of Amanda owner of ‘butter_and’, a baker from San Francisco who specialises in buttercream cakes.

“To those who only buy cakes on their birthdays, live a little! Cake is life,” she concluded.

Makhubele will be hosting a Spring High Tea Party on September 1 at Tzaneen Country Lodge, the event will also give a chance to local business women a chance to network with each other.
