Tzaneen: Gin Festival stirs up ambivalence

Residents around Tzaneen were left with a bitter taste in their mouths after the weekends Gin Festival.

This comes after the weekend-long Metro FM Gin Fest that took place next to Fairview Hotel & Village.

Residents not only complained about being blocked out from using their normal route, but also complained about the noise that came from the event until 02:00 from both the Saturday and Sunday events.

‘Fairview did not host the function, we were merely asked to offer accommodation to the guests that would be coming in from place..’

One of the Metro FM Gin Fest organisers, Mandla Nkhata, stated that the event went well in their regard and that they will definitely be hosting it again in Tzaneen.

“We are happy about everything. The reception, attendance and atmosphere was amazing. We will definitely be hosting the event again but we might change the venue to the Tzaneen Dam next time,” stated Nkhata
