#IMadeMyMark: Tzaneen resident (79) say go and vote!

"I remember 1994, everyone knew the elections was a big thing. We could feel it in the atmosphere as we were standing in line to vote. I remember seeing a lot of eager faces and the air was filled with hope,” explained Jansen van Vuuren.

“It is your right to vote, so go out and cast your vote today!

“You’ve got a responsibility to our rainbow nation,” says Heila Jansen van Vuuren, 79, who has voted every election year since she turned 18 in 1958.

“I remember 1994, everyone knew the elections was a big thing. We could feel it in the atmosphere as we were standing in line to vote. I remember seeing a lot of eager faces and the air was filled with hope,” explained Jansen van Vuuren.

She went on to say that voting is crucial to changing our country for the better, and that if you do not vote then you can not complain about the results.

“We have the right to vote, to give our part to ensure that South Africa grows in its democracy,” said Jansen van Vuuren.

Voting changed a lot since she drew her first X on ballot paper.

“We started with little papers they stick in your ID book, now we get a mark on our thumbs to signify that we’ve voted,” continued Jansen van Vuuren.
