TZANEEN: GTM in process of erecting camp for homeless

Residents are concerned about a camp for the homeless that are being erected at Jetty 3 during the lockdown.

A camp to house 136 homeless people during the 21-day lockdown is currently being erected on the Jetty 3 site.

Greater Tzaneen Municipality spokesperson, Neville Ndlala has confirmed that they are at the moment erecting a camp to provide shelter to the homeless during the lockdown.

Concerned residents contacted Herald with news about a camp with mobile toilets in the midst of a residential area.

On Thursday night, President Cyril Ramaphosa  announced that temporary shelters that meet the necessary hygiene standards will be identified or erected for homeless people.  This is all part of the government’s comprehensive plan to inhibit the movement of people to curb the spread of the Coronavirus.

Ndlala said they are still finalising the plan and more information will be forthcoming.
