Virtual game drives and viewing online

Read how you can go on a virtual game drive while in lockdown.

With the national parks also on lockdown, nature lovers can enjoy a virtual game viewing experience.

According to Greyton Mlambo, a freelance tour guide, one does not have to leave your home to enjoy a live game viewing experience. You can simply log onto Kruger National Park’s webcams which are situated all over the park, he said.

The webcams are available on the SANParks website.

One could also join online safaris of Tintswalo Safari Lodge in Manyeleti Nature Reserve.

Tintswalo’s CEO, Lisa Goosen, told the Herald that their virtual game drives started out of a necessity to ensure the safety of the reserve. “Realising that there are so many people sitting at home locked down, we thought it would be amazing to document the drives for people at home,” said Goosen.

“In one of the first drives we came across a lion with a snare and had to call a veterinarian to save the animal, which is exactly the reason why we were out and about.”

She explained that the response they received from followers was phenomenal. “We are blessed to be able to go out every day and experience the wildlife each and every day.”

Tintswalo has one virtual game drive daily and it can be accessed on their social media pages.

Mzsingitana Tented Camp CEO, Bhili Rackson, whose lodge borders both the Manyeleti and Kruger National Park, said Manyeleti is home to the big 5, small five, diverse fauna and flora, and is also an ideal place for birding. “It is a good thing that companies such as Tintswalo, who are within the reserve, are able to give the world a view of the undisturbed wildlife,” concluded Rackson.
