NEWSFLASH: Four die in head-on crash outside Phalaborwa

Four people have died and nine were seriously injured in a head-on collision on the R71 on Wednesday night.

Liaison officer for the department of transport, Mike Maringa said a Toyota minibus collided head-on with a Ford sedan near the Five Air Special base at Namakgale outside Phalaborwa.

“The driver of the sedan and the female passenger from the minibus were certified dead on the scene.

Two other passengers succumbed to the injuries upon their arrival at the hospital,” he said.

Maringa said preliminary investigations revealed speeding and reckless and negligent driving as the possible cause of the accident.

He said those with injuries were rushed to Maphuta Malatji hospital.
