Rikhotso honoured for contribution to Xitsonga literature

Xitsonga veteran journalist, Dr Freddy Rikhotso was given a Lifetime Achievement Award by Vutivi i Ndzhaka recently for his contribution to Xitsonga literature.

Dr Rikhotso has written 18 books throughout the years.

He was one of the most loved news anchors on Munghana Lonene FM before his retirement in 2013 after working for more than three decades.

In 2015 he was awarded an honorary Doctorate of Philosophy in Literature for his contribution to the development of the Xitsonga Language.

He is also a gold medalist athlete. In 2017 and 2018 Rikhotso became the Mopani District Champion in the Golden Games’ 200m race.

In 2019 he was crowned a national champion after winning the South African Golden Games’ 200m race at the Nelson Mandela Stadium in Port Elizabeth in a personal best time of 33.06 seconds.
