Giyani warns of cash-for jobs scam

The Greater Giyani Municipality (GGM) is warning job seekers about a cash-for-jobs scam that swindled unemployed people in the area out of their money.

The scammer allegedly persuaded unsuspecting job seekers to pay R5000 in exchange for employment at GGM.

He advises his victim to wait for him at the municipal gate after paying the required amount at one of the supermarkets’ money market facilities and disappear with the money.

Municipal spokesperson, Steven Mavunda said the conman is targeting former Expanded Public Works Programme (EPWP) employees, in particular those who were employed during 2018 and 2019.

“We have received several complaints from the victims of this scam, and want to take this opportunity to warn people to refrain from entertaining such unscrupulous criminals masquerading as municipal officials. We do not have jobs for sale at the municipality. Anything contrary to this is pure criminality and we urge people to report such to the police,” warned Mavunda.
