Nkowankowa ATM bombed

The Absa ATM in Nkowankowa was bombed in the early hours of Friday, 25 June.

According to Willie Smit of K9 Security, no money was taken, but the machines are badly damaged.

The Herald spoke to few residents who stated that at around 02:00 to 03:00 they heard two loud bang noises that sounded like explosions.

“I was fast asleep, but I was woken up by a big blasting sound.

“A few minutes later there was a similar sound, at first I thought it was an electricity meter which was exploding,” said a Nkowankowa resident.

Meanwhile the impact of the explosion was also felt in the neighbouring village of Dan.

Nomsa Mashele, confirmed with the Herald that she was also woken up with the sound.

No arrests have been made yet and police investigations are ongoing.
