Man gunned down outside Tzaneen bank

A man was gun down on Tuesday morning on his way to deposit money at Standard Bank.

The man who is believed to be in his late thirties, was shot while waiting in the queue to get inside the bank. “After shooting the man in the leg, the criminals grabbed the money which the man was carrying amounting to R38 000. “The four suspects immediately fled the crime scene in a white Audi hatchback,” explained Sgt Maurice Nkhwashu, spokesperson for the police in Tzaneen.

The man, an employee of Tzaneen Hardware, who was rushed to hospital after sustaining injuries. Meanwhile police are still investigating an armed robbery after another businessman was robbed of cash on Monday, January 12. The incident took place in the CBD next to FNB main branch in Morgan Street, the same street as Standard Bank.

“A 38-year-old Somalian employee at Phakati Milling alleges that he was approached by two African males carrying guns as he was heading to the bank to make a cash deposit. “One of the men cocked a gun and then pointed it straight at him. “They grabbed his backpack, which had R85 000 inside in cash. “They then got into a white BMW leaving him helpless,” Nkhwashu said.
