TZANEEN – Tzaneen Marathon Club (TMC) has successfully launched its inaugural TMC Half Marathon, giving local athletes a new event to shine.

The half marathon was a major success, running smoothly thanks to the combined efforts of the club’s committee and members under the leadership of Busi Nyabana, who worked together to deliver a well-organised event for athletes and the community.

Strong turnout across three distances

The anticipated cap was 510 athletes, with 89 runners participating in the 5km, 254 in the 10km, and 94 in the half marathon. A total of 437 athletes finished their respective races.

Maruatana claims open men’s title

The results showed strong performances across the men’s categories. In the open men’s category, Lesetja Maruatana of Sisonke Athletics Club took first place in 01:13:27.5, followed by Rufus Photo of Black Diamond AC in 01:14:31.6. Akani Mathebula was third in 01:16:58.9.

In the 40–49 men’s category, Photo won in 01:14:31.6, with Senku Molewa second in 01:35:22.0 and Phalandwa Ronald Maphaha third in 01:39:20.5.

The 50–59 men’s category was won by Matome Mohlatlole in 01:53:22.9, followed by Borries Bornman in 01:58:51.7 and Riebert Pretorius in 02:00:44.8.

In the 60–69 men’s category, Kenny Shivambu of Giyani Gallopers won in 01:50:22.9, while Jordan Mongwe was second in 02:26:26.2 and Joel Mushwana of Foskor AC third in 02:32:25.3.
