Makgoba celebrates their matric achievers

Makgoba Asset Management (MAM) honoured four of their matric achievers at an excellence awards ceremony at Magoebaskloof Mountain Lodge over the weekend.

Shamaine Magwele, Grace Sekgobela, Thamagane Petja, and Abigail Magoro received words of encouragement and financial assistance from MAM and their stakeholders.
Mogoro, the top achiever, could not attend the function since she is currently at the University of Cape Town studying actuarial sciences.
Thetele Malatji was the programme director and the event was opened by prayer and the national anthem.
Matuma Makgoba welcomed the attendees of the Makgoba Royal House to the event whereafter David Kganyago introduced the guests.
Irene Letsoalo underlined the purpose of the event.

“We are here to congratulate our learners, to celebrate with them, and to motivate them for the future,” said Letsoalo.
On behalf of the Makgoba Royal House, Mosibudi Makgoba congratulated and encouraged these gifted students.
“The last two years have been challenging for most learners only being able to attend school three days a week. It was difficult circumstances but with vigour, hard work, and perseverance you succeeded,” said Mosibudi.
She encouraged the learners to make sure that they are balanced in their tertiary studies and to learn, and never stop learning.
“There is still more to innovate and achieve,” she said.

Abel Serongwa from the Department of Education inspired the learners to become job creators and not job seekers at Makgoba Asset Management.
“I want to inspire you to go out and learn but also to come back home and plow back into the Makgoba community and to contribute and fund even more learners in the future,” said Serongwa.
Freddy Lebepe from ZZ2 congratulated the achievers but also took the time to underline the importance of ethics and honesty in their future careers and studies.
“We need more education but we also need to stay on the right path and away from corruption,” he said.
Thupane Makgoba, from MAM encouraged the learners to lead by action and example and not by rank.

“MAM has developed many programmes in partnership with ZZ2 and we want to develop more entrepeneurs,” he said.
“This is the beginning. For the first time we can give our learners a bursary and we had to develop a policy before the budget could be spent,” said Thupane.
“We want to say to our learners, if there are shortfalls … it is now covered. The amounts awarded to each learner was allocated according to their percentages obtained in their matric results,” he explained.
“This is a small start but we will keep encouraging you. Remember: The difficulty of achievement increases the value of the objective,” Thupane said.

On behalf of the recipients of these funds, Grace Sekgobela said:
“It is an honour to be one of the four leaners that are taken care of by MAM. It demotivates a person when you cannot afford your studies but we know the hand that gives is the hand that receives.
“Thank you for all the support and motivation. The best people are financing us.
“We also want to thank our parents who encouraged us when we said: ‘I want to go to school’.”
