Sergeant brings hope to the community of Tzaneen

Sgt Glenda Mathebula is a multiple award-winning police officer who is the driving force behind solving some of the most gruesome cases reported in the Tzaneen area.

She is currently an investigating officer attached to the Tzaneen family violence, child protection and sexual offences unit.
Mathebula boasts 16 years of experience in the police force and says she finds joy when she brings solutions to people and communities.
She is the face behind the recent life sentencing of Dineo Prince Sekgobela, who was convicted of raping three children at Rikhotso village outside Tzaneen.
Mathebula told the Herald that being a woman works in her favour as victims of sexual crimes, especially the young ones, seem to relate well with females.

Her work has been recognised nationally, affording her a number of awards which include the Limpopo provincial award for most hardworking woman in 2011, 2017 detective of the year in Limpopo and 2018 runner-up in the national detective of the year competition.
Born and bred in Nkuri Sefasonke village in Giyani, she is the only girl of five siblings.
She has a number of qualifications and is currently doing a postgraduate diploma in risk management with Unisa.
She is a wife and a mother of five children (four daughters and one son).

She told the Herald that her family comes first and during her spare time she tries to give her time to her husband and kids.
“I would not be successful at my job if I didn’t have the support of my colleagues and the community.
“When community members cooperate, it makes my job easy,” she said.
Mathebula is a woman making the world better, one step at a time!
