Hoedspruit art event hailed a major success

Hoedspruit’s first Night Under the Stars – Mini Masters event raised over R10k for HALO and Scales Conservation Fund through art and music.

HOEDSPRUIT – The first Night Under the Stars – Mini Masters has been hailed a resounding success, with more than 150 guests gathering for an evening of art, music, and community spirit, all in aid of local charities.

Organised by the five resident artists of the Hoedspruit Art Gallery, the event combined fundraising with the chance to showcase the gallery, the artists, and the wider Hoedspruit creative community. For many guests, it marked their first visit to the gallery, which organisers hope will now become a firm fixture on the town’s cultural map.

More than 260 miniature A5 artworks were exhibited, created by over 18 artists ranging from internationally recognised professionals to talented local schoolchildren. The diverse mix transformed the exhibition into a true community showcase, and buyers responded enthusiastically. Within the first hour, most of the works had already been sold.

After the art viewing, guests relaxed in the garden to the smooth sounds of live jazz under the Hoedspruit night sky, the perfect ending to an evening of creativity and connection.

In total, the event raised more than R10 000, with proceeds split between two local charities: Hoedspruit Animal Outreach (HALO) and Scales Conservation Fund.

“The generosity and support we witnessed was inspiring,” said resident artist Sophie Niemann. “From professional artists to schoolchildren, every contribution played a role in making this event a success. We are thrilled to see our community come together to support great causes and showcase local art.”

“HALO is very grateful to be one of the beneficiaries,” said Yvette Hes of HALO. “The R5 000 we received will go toward our running costs, uplifting the lives of dogs in the rural communities around Hoedspruit.”

Scales Conservation Fund shared a similar appreciation. “We are incredibly grateful to the amazing team at Hoedspruit Art Gallery for their phenomenal support,” said Amy Aucamp-Clark of Scales. “The R5 000 we received will be shared across all our vital projects, from pangolin rescue and rehabilitation to bat care, de-snaring operations, and wildlife rehabilitation. A massive thank you to the artists and the community who made this event such a success.”

Organisers extended thanks to the Rock Fig Centre management and Pam Golding Estates for their support, as well as to all participating artists, buyers, and community members.
