Collision between donkey cart and bus claims life

A head-on collision between a donkey cart and a bus on Thursday evening, October 13 at N'wakhuwani village outside Giyani, claimed the life of the cart driver, 16-year-old Ethen Malatji.

It is alleged that the bus was travelling from Vuhehli village towards Giyani after dropping off passengers. The bus driver was alone on the bus. It is said that two men on the donkey cart got a flat tyre in the middle of the road in the dark. The cart did not have any reflectors. It is alleged that the bus drove at a high speed and collided head-on with them. The driver of the donkey cart and his three donkeys died instantly in the middle of the road.

The driver of the bus drove to the police station for his safety and reported the incident to the police. The passenger in the donkey cart was transported to the hospital for medical treatment. Police in Giyani are investigating a case of culpable homicide and the cause of the accident is under investigation by the police.
