Police launch manhunt for gang-rapists

Detectives at the Phalaborwa Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit (FCS) have launched a manhunt for suspects who allegedly raped a young woman in Lulekani.

According to information received from the police, on Friday, April 5, at about 22:45, a woman (29) was with a male friend at a local tavern in the Biko location in Lulekani. She requested him to accompany her to the bathroom outside of the tavern. It appears they went to the nearby bushes. Two unknown men armed with a firearm and a knife arrived and threatened them.

They took them deeper into the bushes where they came across two more armed men. “Two suspects left with the victim in one direction, while the other two went with the male victim in another direction. “After some time, she heard gunshots and the other two men returned. All four suspects gang-raped her. They left her there and fled the scene.“

She managed to get to the main road and requested help from motorists,” police said in a statement. She was taken to the local police station where she opened a case of rape.
