Limpopo government engage with Saudi company for business opportunities

The MEC for Limpopo Economic Development Enterprise and Tourism (LEDET), Rodgers Monama, led a trip that sought to explore business and investment opportunities in Saudi Arabia recently.

The opportunities were especially for the FetakgomoTubatse (FTSEZ) and MusinaMakhado (MMSEZ) special economic zones. Monama and the South African ambassador to Saudi Arabia, David Magabe, and other delegates met with the leadership of ACWA Power Holdings. ACWA Power is a leading
Saudi developer, investor, and operator of power generation and water desalination plants in 13 countries and the lead shareholder in Redstone in the Northern Cape.

The Redstone project is the largest renewable energy investment in South Africa to date. Monama presented the province’s comparable advantages and indicated that Limpopo is open to investors. The MEC extended an invitation to the company, and representatives from Redstone will soon visit the region, as they are keen to do projects from government to government. The South African delegates also attended the Riyadh Travel Fair at the Riyadh Convention Centre.

The fair is an annual event where leading travel and tourism companies in Saudi Arabia and from other countries gather to promote their products to Arab countries. During the event, Magabe stated that Saudi Arabian passport holders do not need a visa to visit South Africa and can visit the country for up to a maximum of 180 days.

To boost tourism, the government of Saudi Arabia has announced that there will be direct flights between Saudi Arabia (Jeddah) and OR Tambo. The MEC concluded by stating that it is the intention of the Limpopo government to increase the number of Saudi visitors and investors in the hospitality industry.
