Diphuti Primary heading to national choir finals

The choir of Diphuti Primary School from The Oaks will represent Limpopo at the 2023 ABC Motsepe South African Schools Choral Eisteddfod (SASCE) after they were crowned provincial champions.

The choir will participate at the Rhema Church in Gauteng on June 27 for the second year running. Last year they also won the provincial leg of the competition and came fourth in the national competition. Their former principal, Sechube Masete, who accompanied them to the provincial competition, said that Diphuti Primary School never disappoints.

“When they perform the atmosphere is electrifying, it really feels like angels singing. Last year they received applause from everyone, even the other participating schools. “It is amazing that a school from the villages is able to achieve something like this, and also be able to represent their province at the national competition,” he said. Diphuti came first in the category Grade 5-7 Izitibili Social Ills, Jungle and Indigenous Folklore.

They represented Mopani West at the provincial competition after they won the district competition. The choir is led by Matlou Alinah Maapotlo, a teacher at the school. The choir was accompanied by Mopani West District director, Pulane Modika, Lepelle circuit manager, Matema Moagi, and former school principal, Masete. Maruleng Local Municipality mayor, Tsheko Musolwa, congratulated the school on their achievement and wished them luck in the national competition.
