Progress made on the D3179 road

Significant progress has been made by Road Agency Limpopo (RAL) on phase 1 of the road maintenance project for the D3179 from Medingeng to Malematsa near Kgapane in the Greater Letaba Municipality.

Phase 1 will see 4.5km of 9.6km rehabilitated Road D3179 was previously in a poor state with inadequate drainage and silt accumulation that caused erosion during the rain se, thereby rendering it to be a single-lane pathway.

With the ongoing improvements, the road will become more accessible and enhance the driving experience for road users. Last year October, the MEC of Public Works, Roads, and Infrastructure, Nkakareng Rakgoale visited the road along with the mayor, Dagma Mamanyoha for the official handover of a contractor to rehabilitate the D3179.

This was part of the MEC’s drive to hand over the 93 contractors to communities to rehabilitate roads across the province. Progress made includes the completion of the roadbed and the current construction of the sub-base layer.

The road will be built with paving blocks to create job opportunities for the locals. So far, the project has provided employment to 15 local labourers and empowered
