Support Troy with Springbok Opus collector’s book online auction

Troy Matthysen, who celebrated his 16th birthday on Sunday is still battling to overcome an aggressive tumour in his brain.

Troy was diagnosed with Juvenile Nasopharyngeal Angiofibroma (JNA), a rare disease that affects adolescent boys, at the end of 2021 and underwent an operation last year to remove a benign vascular tumour. Two more tumours appeared a few months later and were released in March this year and he was thought to be on his way to recovery. Jeff, Troy’s father, said that Troy has been receiving ongoing radiation after this surgery.

To raise money for Troy’s next sessions of radiation, Jeff reached out to Jannie Muller of Giitd Architects for an online auction of a Springbok collector’s coffee table book. “We have gotten to the stage where we have to wait for Troy’s radiation that he received to work, but the tumour that sits on his carotid artery has grown into the right side of his brain causing infection, swelling, and loss of eyesight. He also just had a grommet fitted in his right ear.

The operations and doctor appointments are increasing all the time and last week I was told that there is a reality that we might lose this battle which I just cannot bring myself to accept. We have another appointment on September 7 and 8 and are unsure what to expect,” Jeff said. Giitd Architects posted the auction on their Facebook page pleading with people to participate in the auction.

“With the help of the Jahara Rehabilitation Trust Fund, there is a glimmer of hope that Troy may still have a fighting chance to overcome this enormous challenge. We plead to anyone who can imagine the pain that this family is faced with, to participate in the auctioning off a Springbok Opus collector’s book. The highest bidder will be the proud owner of this collector’s item and will pay the bid amount directly into the trust fund.”

Bids can only be placed under the relevant post on Giitd Architects’ Facebook page. Bidding closes on 10 September at midnight after the Springbok vs. Scotland Rugby World Cup game. The book is ideal for any boardroom or lodge lounge area. Anyone who wants to donate to Troy’s cause can contact Jeff at 065 670 9642.
