Giyani set for major transformation with Masingita development
A multi-million-rand development by Masingita Group will bring a hotel, automotive hub and private hospital to Giyani.
LIMPOPO – The face of Greater Giyani is expected to undergo a major transformation as a multi-million-rand development planned by the Masingita Group of Companies gathers momentum.
The development is being spearheaded by businessman Mike Nkuna, founder of Masingita Group, who has played a significant role in the development of Giyani through major investments, including Masingita Mall.
Key stakeholders meet behind closed doors
The latest developments emerged after a team from Masingita Group met behind closed doors with Greater Giyani Municipality (GGM) on Friday at the municipality’s new council chamber to discuss strategic plans for the proposed development.
The meeting brought together key public and private-sector stakeholders, including Masingita Group, the Industrial Development Corporation (IDC), GGM, and Mopani District Municipality.
Two-phase development planned
According to GGM spokesperson Steve Mavunda, the briefing focused on the initial rollout of phase 1 of the highly anticipated Kremetart development, while also outlining plans for phase 2, which will expand around the area of the existing Masingita Mall towards D1 Section.
Mavunda said the proposed development would introduce services and facilities currently unavailable in Giyani, reducing the need for residents to travel to larger cities for specialised services.
Phase 1: Automotive hub and hotel
“Phase 1 centres on the Kremetart development hub, featuring the Farm Hotel, Engen garage and automotive retail outlets for major brands, including Volkswagen, Toyota, Ford and emerging Chinese manufacturers,” he said.
Phase 2: Hospital and retail expansion
“Phase 2 is expected to expand the Masingita Mall area with a private hospital, residential units for health professionals, a new Sasol filling station and a Food Lover’s Market,” he added.
What it means for Giyani residents
The planned automotive hub could be particularly beneficial to local motorists, who often travel to Tzaneen, Polokwane, Louis Trichardt or Johannesburg for specialised vehicle servicing and maintenance. It would provide easier access to dealerships, spare parts and specialised services in Giyani.
The development is also expected to attract investment and create jobs, while the proposed private hospital would expand local healthcare services and provide opportunities for medical and support staff.
Administrative commitments outlined
Municipal managers from the Greater Giyani and Mopani District municipalities attended the meeting to outline the technical and administrative commitments needed to support the development.
Although the overall investment value, construction timeline and projected job numbers were not disclosed, the project represents one of the most significant private-sector investment proposals currently on the horizon for Giyani.
