Driver causes havoc in Modjadjiskloof CBD

A man who drove without licence plates and ignored instructions from a police officer, now has a criminal record.

Samson Shalobril Ramalisa was also fined R1000 in the Modjadjiskloof Magistrate’s Court. On Friday, November 17, Ramalisa was seen driving a white Toyota Corolla with no registration. A police officer stopped the car as no identification or temporary permit was displayed.

“Ramalisa disregarded the police, made insulting remarks and drove away. Even though traffic officers were asked to follow the car, the suspect managed to get away,” Const Elliot Mabulane of Modjadjiskloof SAPS told the Herald. The next day Ramalisa was again noticed in Modjadjiskloof CBD driving the same car.

Police again stopped him, and he again refused to comply and drove off. He was seen making a U-turn and illegally overtaking a bus. He again turned around in the direction of town and again failed to stop when police tried to pull off the road. “Two police cars from Tzaneen SAPS were called as backup, yet the suspect still refused to stop.

In the end, he was blocked by a civilian driving an Amarok,” he added. The station commander of Modjadjiskloof, Lt Col Makgadi Manamela, said that residents could have been killed because of the driver’s reckless behaviour and driving. “It is a criminal offence to refuse to stop or give your name to a police officer, and no one is above the law,” Manamela said.
