Suspected furniture robbers behind bars

Three suspects were caught in possession of goods that were presumably stolen during a burglary at a furniture store in Giyani’s CBD last month.

The arrests were part of a police intelligence-driven operation aimed at ensuring a safe festive season. The suspects, aged between 28 and 33, allegedly stole valuable items worth thousands of rands before fleeing the scene during the burglary.

Police have been looking for them without success but after receiving a tip-off about the suspects’ whereabouts, they traced two of the men to Jim-Nghalalume and Gon’on’o villages. Police discovered various goods believed to have been stolen during the burglary, including a refrigerator, plasma TV, music system, vacuum cleaner, cellphones, and other electrical appliances.

Further investigations led to the arrest of the third suspect in Risinga View where police recovered more stolen goods. The three suspects will appear in the Giyani Magistrate’s Court facing charges of possession of suspected stolen property.

The commissioner of police in Limpopo, Lt Gen Thembi Hadebe, has commended the team of investigators that led to the arrests, saying this should serve as a warning to criminals. “We are committed to protecting the citizens of this province and their property. This should send a strong message to those who are still contemplating committing a crime that we will hunt them down to face the consequences of their actions,” she said.
