Honorary rangers ask for reference books to stock ranger stations
Wildlife reference books and field guides to help SANParks rangers can be donated in an effort to stock and establish libraries at ranger stations in South African’s national parks.
The Fields Guides Association of Southern Africa (FGASA) said that they have been approached by the SANParks Honorary Rangers (SHR) to assist in a book donation drive which can locally be delivered to the FGASA office at The Farmery in Zandspruit, Hoedspruit. FGASA said in a media statement that the SHR identified a need among field rangers for books and begun stocking small resource libraries at field ranger stations in various national parks with books.

“The SHR is asking members of the public to donate pre-loved or used reference books or field guides related to geology, ecology, flora, fauna, cultural heritage, and natural heritage.” There are over 2000 honorary rangers in South Africa, all volunteers, based in 31 regions around the country and working in 19 national parks. Over the past 10 years, SHR has provided SANParks with over R248.6 million in public and business donations and volunteer support.
