The Violence now showing on DSTV

Innocent Setagane is a testament that hard work and perseverance pay off. His TV series, The Violence, is currently aired on DStv channel 260.

It has been a long journey for the young man from Mashishimale outside Phalaborwa, who started his film career from nothing with no money and without any experience in filmmaking. Season 1 of The Violence was released in July 2021on YouTube and other social media platforms. Setagane will soon start shooting season 4 of his thought-provoking series.

“I’m excited that DStv approached us to have our series play on their channel, it is an honour and I believe it will encourage other aspiring filmmakers to, even without connections and capital, to follow their dreams as it can materialise.” He says the idea of the series was born after he witnessed and read a lot about gender-based violence.

He then decided to make a movie about the impact of violence on the community. Initially the series was only available on YouTube and   other social media platforms. He says he works with raw talent from the villages and by this he hopes to remove youngsters from the streets and to help them focus on something constructive.

The Violence crew members are Edward Monyela, Fortune Maenetja, Gift Malatji,
Koketso Sekgale and Mokgadi Shai.

“Although we are slowly, but surely breaking grounds, we still face many challenges, the main one being finances. “In most cases I end up taking money from my own pocket to pay for transportation of actors who stay far. “I’m still a student myself and financing the series is challenging, but we won’t let it stop us from achieving our dreams,” he says.
