Two nabbed after terrorising locals

The two illegal immigrants from Zimbabwe who have been terrorising businesses and residents in Magoebaskloof and Georges Valley, appeared in the Modjadjiskloof Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday, March 5 after they were arrested on Friday, March 1.

According to Marius Jacobs of Canine Security, on Friday morning, an informant tipped them on suspected stolen goods that were about to be moved. “We quickly assembled a team that included the police’s Mopani and Tzaneen tracking teams and Modjadjiskloof Vispol and met at the golf course. “We located the informant who pointed the police to a house.”

“Upon entering, a Zimbabwean national was apprehended with a lot of biltong in his possession that was stolen the previous night,” says Jacobs. The suspect took them to his partner who ran away when he saw the police approaching. “We found more biltong at this site and while investigating the scene, we found other items that were presumably stolen.”

Among the items were clothes, a welding machine, and gas cylinders. “We also found house-breaking implements that were buried near a maize field. These included a cutter, a crowbar, and other items estimated to have a street value of about R100 000.” A gun without ammunition was also found.” He says some of the items were identified as stolen items from two recent break-ins. The suspects confirmed that other stolen items had already been taken to Zimbabwe.

Jacobs says the biltong shop had three recent break-ins, and on February 9, a generator was stolen from them which already is in Zimbabwe. “The police work hand-in-hand with all the security companies, and they make sure that every time we call them, they respond quickly. I have been working with them since 2008 and it has been a successful partnership and that applies to all security companies.” He says that the suspects are also thought to have shot a lodge employee Magoebaskloof.
